hyderabad: british prime minister tony blair will have a one-on-one meeting with chief minister chandrababu naidu during his five-hour flying visit to andhra pradesh on january 6. according to information, the british premier will spend about 40 minutes with naidu, probably at the dr marri chenna reddy human resources development institute in jubilee hills, hyderabad. it is not known immediately what the two leaders will discuss, but it is believed that each will present to the other an overview of the contemporary situation in his sphere. naidu is expected to brief blair about happenings in the state, particularly the development programmes undertaken with financial assistance rendered by british government agencies. he will make a presentation about the measures initiated by his government to eradicate poverty in the state with funding from the uk department for international development (dfid). the dfid is advancing huge amounts for antipoverty programmes and funneling money to bridge the state’s budgetary deficit. the dfid is also showing keen interest in introducing systems to promote good governance, and has funded the centre for good governance established at mcr-hrd institute. blair will land in hyderabad on the morning of january 6 in a special aircraft and receive a red carpet reception from the state government. he will then go to vattam village in bijenapally mandal of mahbubnagar district to visit a school constructed with dfid funding and interact with the members of self-help groups for about 15 minutes. he will also witness the activities of dwcra groups. in the afternoon, the premier will inaugurate the centre for good governance (cgg) at the mcrhrd institute. the centre, said to be one of its kind in the country,has received rs 60 crore from the dfid. blair is likely to spend most of his time in ap at the institute before leaving hyderabad. official sources told the times of india that this would be the first visit by a top british government leader to hyderabad.
